I should just let this one speak for itself...

Among the many other people of last name "Webb" in the Cornell directory is a professor by the name of Watt W. Webb. I found out about him long ago when I was working for Cornell Information Technologies and, bored between phone calls, I would sometimes look up various potentially funny netIDs in the directory just to see if they existed. You know, like god1, ass6, bad1. Dr. Webb was of the "www" series, which has great geek appeal, plus we share a last name, so could it get any better?

Anyway, today I got an interesting e-mail from somebody in some grant processing office at Cornell who somehow grabbed the wrong "Webb" e-mail address from the directory. As I then wrote in a forward to some friends (who promptly "congratulated" me), "Looks like I've won a research grant from Cornell! I am, as you know, all about Nascent Dynamic Intermediates in Amyloid Aggregation."

I did reply to the original e-mail, of course, to ensure that the office is aware of the mistake so it can resend to the real Dr. Webb.

Hi Laura,

Although I appreciate this magnanimous offer, I am not the Watt W. Webb you speak of, and I don't know the first thing about Nascent Dynamic Intermediates in Amyloid Aggregation. I'm just a lowly Class of 2003 A&LS alum who happens to share a last name with the Principal Investigator in question.
